Largemouth Bass in Stardew Valley: Catch Location, Season, and Guide

Marcus WebbMarcus Webb|

You can catch the Largemouth Bass at Mountain Lake during 6 AM – 7 PM in any season and weather.

The Largemouth Bass is one of the most reliable fish in Stardew Valley. It’s your go-to catch for completing the Lake Fish Bundle early in the game, and with its year-round availability, you’ll never have to worry about seasonal timing. At difficulty 50, it’s challenging enough to give decent fishing XP but not so hard that you’ll break your fishing rod trying to land it.

This fish sells for a solid 100g base price, making it decent early-game income. More importantly, it’s one of the five fish you need for the Lake Fish Bundle at the Community Center. Completing this bundle quickly unlocks the Bridge Repair reward, which opens up access to the Quarry area.

Where to Catch Largemouth Bass

Mountain Lake is the only spot where you’ll find Largemouth Bass. Head north from Robin’s carpenter shop and you’ll hit the lake within seconds. The entire lake counts as valid fishing spots, but I recommend the northern or eastern shores for easier casting.

Don’t waste time trying other locations. You won’t catch Largemouth Bass in the ocean, rivers, or any other body of water in the valley. Mountain Lake is your only option, but that’s actually perfect since it’s easily accessible from the start of the game.

The lake never freezes in winter, unlike some other fishing spots, so you can fish here year-round without any issues. Park yourself anywhere along the shoreline and start casting.

When to Catch Largemouth Bass

Season Time Weather Location Difficulty
All Seasons 6 AM – 7 PM Any Mountain Lake 50

The Largemouth Bass keeps things simple with its availability. You can catch it during daylight hours from 6 AM to 7 PM, regardless of season or weather. Rain, sun, snow – doesn’t matter. This makes it perfect for players who want consistent fishing without checking calendars or weather forecasts.

The 13-hour window gives you plenty of time to fish, even if you’re busy with other farm activities. Just make sure you’re not fishing after 7 PM, because the Largemouth Bass won’t bite during evening or night hours.

Since it’s available in all seasons, you can knock out the Lake Fish Bundle requirement whenever it’s convenient. No need to wait for specific seasons like you do with Walleye or other seasonal fish.

How to Catch Largemouth Bass

At difficulty 50, the Largemouth Bass sits right in the middle of the fishing difficulty scale. You’ll need at least Fishing level 3-4 to consistently catch it without tackle, though determined players can snag it at lower levels with patience.

For tackle, I recommend the Trap Bobber if you’re struggling with the mini-game. It slows down the fish’s escape progress, giving you more time to keep the fish in the green bar. The Barbed Hook works well too, especially if you’re still learning the fishing mechanics.

Your fishing rod matters here. The Bamboo Pole won’t let you use tackle, so upgrade to the Fiberglass Rod (1,800g from Willy) as soon as possible. The Iridium Rod is overkill for Largemouth Bass, but if you have it, use bait to speed up bite times.

The fish has a moderate movement pattern – not as erratic as the Carp, but more challenging than basic fish like Sunfish. Keep steady pressure and don’t panic when it makes sudden moves.

Largemouth Bass Uses

The Lake Fish Bundle is the main reason you’ll catch Largemouth Bass. This Community Center bundle requires Largemouth Bass, Carp, Bullhead, Sturgeon, and any one crab. Completing it repairs the bridge to the Quarry, unlocking a valuable mining area.

For cooking, Largemouth Bass works in Sashimi (any fish + nothing) and Maki Roll (any fish + Seaweed + Rice). Both recipes are decent energy sources, though you’ll probably find better uses for the fish.

Like most fish, Largemouth Bass makes Quality Fertilizer when combined with Sap in a Recycling Machine. It’s not the most efficient use, but it’s an option if you’re swimming in bass and need fertilizer.

As a gift, Largemouth Bass is liked by Demetrius, Elliott, Leo, Linus, Pam, Sebastian, and Willy. It’s a neutral gift for most other villagers and only disliked by Evelyn, Haley, and Pierre.

Fish Ponds can house Largemouth Bass, producing more Largemouth Bass over time plus occasional Largemouth Bass roe. The roe sells for decent money (100g base) and makes good Quality Fertilizer ingredients.

Tips for Catching Largemouth Bass

Fish early in your playthrough when you need Community Center bundles completed. The Largemouth Bass is one of the easier Lake Fish Bundle requirements, so get it out of the way first.

If you’re having trouble with the difficulty 50 rating, spend time catching easier fish first. Sunfish and Sardines are great for building up your Fishing skill and learning the mini-game mechanics.

Bring plenty of bait if you’re using the Fiberglass or Iridium Rod. Mountain Lake can be slow sometimes, and bait cuts down the wait time between bites significantly.

Don’t stress about getting perfect quality Largemouth Bass for the bundle – any quality works. Save your energy for the trickier bundle fish like Sturgeon, which only appears in summer and fall.

Consider setting up a Fish Pond once you’ve completed the bundle. Largemouth Bass reproduce reliably and their roe provides steady income with minimal effort.
