Destiny: Heavy Ammo Loss Bug Finally Fixed

Destiny

One of the more frustrating bugs in Destiny was the heavy ammunition glitch. A player would pick up heavy ammo, and then die. However, that heavy ammo a player just collected would suddenly lessen after each death. Soon after collecting a full clip of heavy ammo, it all goes away. Bungie has been aware of this rather grating aspect of Destiny for some time. The Bungie staff claimed it was a hard issue to fix without causing other issues. However, the glitch was finally rectified in the latest update patch for Destiny. It is great because when you play a Raid and die, the heavy ammo your Guardian character accumulated does not suddenly lessen or go away. Considering how much of an issue this has been since launch, it is a massive fix.

So, Bungie had some excuses for the game, and it took time to fix them. It was frustrating to hear Bungie’s rationale because Bungie quickly fixes a cheese or a glitch that players would take advantage of to defeat Atheon or Crota. Those issues would quickly get hot fixed from Bungie to prevent players from taking a strategy to easily defeat some high level bosses. In comparison, the heavy ammo loss bug had been a problem since Destiny launched last September. It took until late in February to get repaired. I am not a game programmer, but it sounds misleading and disingenuous when Bungie quickly repairs an advantageous glitch. However, Bungie seems to take longer to rectify the problem when they are aware of a nagging, chronic issue that players want fixed,.

Regardless, I am glad to see this problem has been eradicated The issue has extended to Player vs. Player gameplay in the Crucible. When a player picked up heavy ammo, if that player died, the other player would be able to pick up the heavy ammunition in return. This was not as bad of a problem as losing heavy ammo in the activities such as Raids, Weekly Heroic Strikes or Nightfall Strikes. However, if this means a player can pick up heavy ammo, die and still keep it for Crucible gameplay, there is no problem with that. Hopefully, heavy ammo problems are now put to bed with the latest update. I look forward to diving back into the tougher missions without having to worry or plan around as much on losing all the heavy ammo gains.

Bungie should investigate issues like this and repair them quickly. Focus on the major game issues rather than trying to erase cheeses or boss glitches. It is not necessary to fix an issue such as the knocking of bosses over cliffs. Those can actually be fun for players. The Destiny 1.1.1 download patch recently launched this week.
