Is Path of Exile Cross Platform? Crossplay Guide 2026

Marcus WebbMarcus Webb|

YES — Path of Exile 2 supports full crossplay across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, the original Path of Exile (PoE 1) has no crossplay support at all.

This distinction is crucial. Grinding Gear Games designed crossplay into Path of Exile 2 from the start, but they never added it to the original game. If you’re playing PoE 1, you’re stuck with players on the same platform. On the other hand, PoE 2 lets you team up with friends on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S.

Path of Exile 2 Cross-Platform Support

Path of Exile 2 offers both crossplay and cross-progression. This means you can play with friends on different platforms and also carry your account progress between them. You can log in on PC one day and switch to PS5 the next, bringing your characters and progress with you.

Here’s a quick look at the platforms that can join forces in Path of Exile 2:

  • PC — full crossplay enabled
  • PlayStation 5 — full crossplay enabled
  • Xbox Series X|S — full crossplay enabled

Crossplay Compatibility Table

Platform Path of Exile 1 Crossplay Path of Exile 2 Crossplay

PlayStation 5 ❌ No ✅ Yes
Xbox Series X|S ❌ No ✅ Yes
PlayStation 4 ❌ No ❌ Not Available
Xbox One ❌ No ❌ Not Available

Limitations to Be Aware Of

While Path of Exile 2 provides crossplay and cross-progression, it’s not entirely seamless. There’s one major limitation:

  • Microtransaction purchases don’t transfer between PlayStation and PC/Xbox. Any cosmetics or premium currency bought on PlayStation will stay on PlayStation. If you purchase something on PC or Xbox, it won’t appear on your PS5 account.
  • Path of Exile 1 has zero crossplay. No exceptions. PC players are on PC servers, while console players are on console servers. The two don’t mix.

How to Enable Crossplay in Path of Exile 2

According to Grinding Gear Games, crossplay in Path of Exile 2 relies on your linked account. To play with friends across platforms, follow these steps:

  1. Create or log into your Grinding Gear Games account.
  2. Link that account on the platform you’re using.
  3. Add friends using their GGG account details or the in-game friend system.
  4. Invite them to your party as usual — platform doesn’t matter.

Cross-progression works the same way. Your account is the key. Play on any supported platform, and your characters come along.

Does Path of Exile 1 have crossplay?

No. Path of Exile 1 doesn’t support crossplay between PC and consoles, or between any other platforms. Each platform operates on its own separate player base and servers. Crossplay was never integrated into PoE 1.

Can PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players play together in Path of Exile 2?

Yes. Path of Exile 2 allows full crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Console players can easily team up with one another and with PC players without any gameplay restrictions.

Do microtransactions carry over between platforms in Path of Exile 2?

Partially. Cross-progression lets you carry over your characters and account progress, but microtransaction purchases made on PlayStation won’t transfer to PC or Xbox, and vice versa. Keep this in mind before spending on cosmetics if you switch platforms often.
