Borderlands 4 allows crossplay among PC (Steam and Epic), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The official FAQ states that players must link a free SHiFT account to their game for online play across different platforms. As of October 8, 2026, cross-save hasn’t been officially confirmed as available.

Does Borderlands 4 have cross-progression?
Not confirmed yet. Borderlands 4 launched without cross-save or cross-progression, and linking a SHiFT account does not move saves between platforms. Gearbox's 2026 roadmap said cross-save was being worked on, and the studio's reported plans give no firm date. Reports from May 2026 said it was still not available. The March 2026 Shared Progression feature only shares map progress, SDU tokens and collectibles between characters on the same platform. The release of true cross-save has not been officially confirmed.
How to turn crossplay on or off in Borderlands 4
- Create or sign in to a free SHiFT account from the SHiFT option in the main menu, and link it to the game.
- Open Session Settings from the main menu.
- Set the Party Privacy option you want: Friends Only, Invite Only, Public or Local Only.
- Switch Personal Crossplay on or off to allow or block players from other platforms.
- To add friends on other platforms, open SHiFT in the main menu, go to the Friends tab and search the full SHiFT display name.
