The Legend of Zelda: Dealing with the Wii U Delay

1 min

Nintendo has announced that The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U has been delayed. The announcement was made by franchise producer Eiji Aonuma. The announcement was a huge blow to The Legend of Zelda fans. Zelda fans have been waiting for a new installment of the franchise since The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword in 2011. Now fans will have to wait until 2016.

The news is rough because a brand new Zelda game is arguably just what Dr. Mario has ordered for the Wii U. Overall, 2014 was a much better year for the Wii U. The delivery of a new mainline Legend of Zelda video game in 2015 could have provided a huge release for the console. Gamers have been waiting a long time for a new Zelda title. The release of a 3DS version of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and Hyrule Warriors were nice starters, but fans have been waiting to get a Zelda video game in actual high definition video resolution for a while. Unfortunately, fans of the Zelda franchise will have to wait quite a bit longer.

Fans can take some solace from the announcement in that Aonuma revealed that the developers came up with some new ideas for the game to make it even grander. The execution of these ideas into the game means not making a 2015 release a priority. I can understand that. If this means Nintendo is delivering a better gaming experience of Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda, I am all for it. Quite frankly, I am sick of major game releases that come off as stripped down for the launch release, only for players to be forced to pay for tons of DLC extras. So, if this means the next game will be a better, more complete experience, Nintendo should take more time to develop the game.

However, Nintendo should provide some more answers to fans who might be frustrated by this news. The Electronic Entertainment Expo is coming around in a couple of months. By that time, Nintendo should have something from the game to show the fans. If there are exciting new features, Nintendo needs to get in front of the situation. Show the fans the amazing ideas that are planned and properly explain why they are great. If Nintendo can do that, it can turn potential negatives into positives.

The Legend of Zelda game for the Nintendo Wii U is now scheduled for a release some time in 2016.
