Starfield Seamless Landing Mod Targets No Man’s Sky Feature

Sarah ChenBy Sarah Chen·

A new mod for Starfield, called Seamless Landing, aims to eliminate one of the game’s most criticized interruptions: the loading screen that appears between space and a planet’s surface. PC Gamer reports that this mod “looks set to” bring Starfield closer to the experience found in No Man’s Sky, created by Hello Games.

The choice of words matters here. “Looks set to” indicates the mod is still under development. So far, the coverage we’ve seen doesn’t provide a release date, author information, or a compatibility list. We’ll keep you updated once we have those details.

Starfield debuted on September 6, 2023, and has included loading screens for planetary transitions since launch. Players have been asking for a seamless descent from orbit to the ground ever since. Dexerto describes the mod as a “heavily requested space travel feature,” which reflects that ongoing demand.

The comparison to No Man’s Sky is clear. Released in 2016, Hello Games’ title allows players to fly from deep space into an atmosphere and land without any breaks. PC Gamer even adds another reference point, noting, “Or Star Wars Outlaws, if you’re nasty.” That game also allows for continuous movement from space to a planet’s surface.

No Man’s Sky continues to set the standard for seamless travel and still attracts a large audience. Currently, its Steam page lists 11,176 players, and 83% of its 236,879 reviews are positive. A mod that narrows the gap in Starfield’s features invites direct comparisons with a game that’s enjoyed years of updates since its launch.

The competitive landscape is changing, too. Our records show that Planet Crafter is heading to PS5, adding pressure on No Man’s Sky. Survival and exploration games are vying for the same players, and seamless travel is one of the most effective ways to stand out.

Feedback about No Man’s Sky leans negative in the signals we’ve gathered, despite its overall positive Steam rating. One reviewer mentioned, “Personally I need a bit of direction in a game. No Man’s Sky is unfortunately not that,” comparing it to Subnautica. Another remarked, “don’t buy this game at full price of 60 euros… it’s a scam.” Both comments refer to No Man’s Sky itself, not the Starfield mod. This sample includes only 10 signals, so take it as insight rather than a definitive judgment.

What To Watch

  • Release status: We’ll see if Seamless Landing launches as a stable download and how it integrates with Starfield’s current planet and landing systems.
  • Bethesda’s response: We’re curious whether the studio will comment on the mod or incorporate similar features into an official update.
  • No Man’s Sky player counts: We’ll be watching if its 11,176 current Steam players change as Starfield modders and competitors like Planet Crafter emerge.
