3. Learn About American History at Fort McHenry

One of the most interesting historical sites is Fort McHenry. Now a historic shrine and national monument, the fort was the primary defensive position for the city during the War of 1812. It’s also the location that inspired Francis Scott Key to write his poem Defence of Fort M’Henry, better known as The Star Spangled Banner, America’s national anthem. The fort also boasts years of later history, including eras such as the Civil War and World War II.
4. Visit the Edgar Allan Poe House And Museum
This museum is a must-see for any horror or classic literature fan. The house was built in 1830 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1972. Visitors can view some of Poe’s possessions, learn more about his life and work and discover his close ties to the city of Baltimore.
5. Check out an Art Museum
The city of Baltimore is home to numerous art museums. No matter what types of art you’re interested in, chances are there will be one for you in Baltimore. Some of the most popular ones include the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Walters Art Museum and the American Visionary Art Museum. The Baltimore Museum of Art is free to visit. It was founded in 1914 and its collections contain art from several eras, including modern, contemporary and nineteenth century. You can see both paintings and sculptures here. The Walters Art Museum is also free to visit and its galleries contain a wide variety of art, from Ethiopian pieces to Renaissance paintings. The American Visionary Art Museum’s galleries are full of unique, eclectic art. It also offers rotating exhibitions, outdoor movies and other events.
6. Catch an Orioles Game
Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the home of the Baltimore Orioles, is a fantastic destination for any baseball fan or sports enthusiast. Not only can you attend a game, but you can also experience many other important facets of Baltimore culture. The stadium hosts several restaurants and hot dog stands, as well as a museum and the Orioles Hall of Fame. The park has a memorable retro design and beautiful overlooking views.
