Factors affecting the durability of the mouse

2 min

Most people who are playing games on their computer are using their mouse almost all the time. Their performance depends to a large extent on the quality of the mouse which they are using, since a malfunctioning mouse will usually not transfer data correctly to the computer. It can also lead to a waste of time and cause pain in the hand and arm. Hence many computer users who are spending long hours playing games and using their mouse, would like to find out which is the most durable gaming mouse, a mouse which is designed to perform well for the longest period of time.

Mouse users should be aware that like most electromechanical devices, the mechanical components of the mouse like the buttons are designed to perform perfectly for a particular number of clicks. After the mouse has been used for many million clicks, the performance is likely to deteriorate and the mouse has to be replaced. A Razer gaming mouse is one of the most reputed gaming mice in the world. Unlike the scroll mice used a few decades ago, most of the mice which are used are optical mice. One of the important parameters indicating the life of the mice is specified by Razer in terms of the number of clicks for the switches used in the mouse.

The Razer Mamba is a popular mice series with both wired and wireless mice like the Mamba Elite and Wireless Gear 5. These mice have optical switches which are durable and designed for 50 million clicks according to Razer. The Razer Viper mouse is another extremely durable mouse from Razer, since the optical switches can withstand up to 70 million clicks. So one way to find out how durable the mouse will be, is checking the number of clicks which the mouse is designed for since this is usually mentioned in the manufacturer specification for the mouse.

Though the optical switch is an important component of the mouse, there are many other components in the mouse which can also malfunction and affect its durability. For example if the mouse is not used on a very clean surface, a lot of dirt can accumulate below the mouse. This can affect the optical sensor in the mouse. So though the manufacturer has designed a high quality mouse, it may malfunction if it is not used in the right conditions. If a gaming mouse has lighting , this LED lighting may also fail early. The other components which are used often like the scroll of the mouse may also stop working after some time.

Another factor which affects the durability of the mouse is the way it is handled. Some players may apply a lot of pressure on their mouse and keyboard while they are using it, especially if they are under stress. The mouse is usually not designed for withstanding a lot of pressure, and it will sometimes disintegrate or develop cracks. Some computer users are not careful and may drop the mouse to the floor which will affect its functioning. For a mouse, the cable which is used for connecting it to the USB port of the computer may get cut or damaged. So in addition to design, handling is also important for a mouse.
