It has been more or less unanimously decided by the online gaming community that the most exciting thing to emerge from this year’s PAX conference was footage of the new Metal Gear Solid game, Ground Zeroes. The game is set to use the brand new FOX engine, which will help in shifting the game world to a new open-world environment.
Another massive talking point was about that of the game’s protagonist. Ground Zeroes puts you in the shoes of Solid Snake’s genetic daddy, Naked Snake, who will be familiar to those who played Metal Gear Solid 3, but also may be more familiar to some by his other name, Big Boss. The game is set to be a prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5.
What some people have been confused about, however, is the old-man appearance of Naked Snake in the game. in the shot pictured, it looks like Naked (feels strange calling him that) appears to be suffering from the super-fast ageing disease that afflicted Solid in MGS 4. Thankfully, the game’s creator Hideo Kojima has moved to quell these worries:
I’m seeing a lot of tweets about how when Snake takes off his goggles, he’s old-looking because of his gray hairs. That, however, is just the backlighting making them look gray.
So don’t worry MGS fans. You won’t be condemned to controlling an all-coughing, all-gasping, creaking-hipped Snake again. While this rendition of Snake isn’t quite the young stallion from the earlier MGS games, he’s not someone who’s going to be applying for his Senior Railcard just yet.
