Prey 2 has not been seen or heard from since it was shown off at E3 last year and was one of the biggest surprises of the show. Earlier this year there were some major rumors that the game had actually been cancelled because of development troubles. However, Bethesda later released a official statement that Prey 2 was still in development, it was being delayed:
“The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards”
Today comes news that Bethesda has officially taken Prey 2 off their official website. The site had relaunched last week with a new design, but Prey 2 is nowhere to be found on the website; even though the game had been listed as an upcoming game on the previous website. Bethesda has spoken out about the removal of the game from their website:
“Since we had already announced it wasn’t coming out this year and we don’t have anything new to say on the game at this time, we simply didn’t think it’d be appropriate to include it on the new site launch,”
It doesn’t sound like the game has been cancelled, but it also doesn’t sound like we will be hearing anything about the game in the near future. Strictly speaking Bethesda delayed Prey 2 indefinitely; when they announced the delay they didn’t say the game would be coming out next year. So for all intensive purposes the game may not see the light of day until two or three years from now; hopefully not because this was a game I was really looking forward to.
But Elder Scrolls Online is listed on their website, and that game is not scheduled to be released until 2013, so my guess is that Bethesda has either shelved Prey 2 or they may re-announce the game as a next generation title.
Prey 2 had garnered a good following after the great E3 showing last year, and I am hoping Bethesda has not given up on the game as it has a lot of potential. Hopefully we hear more about Prey 2 as Bethesda has said the game isn’t cancelled, but they are not making it easy to believe them.
