PopCap Studios has always managed to inject that special little something into each and every one of their games. PopCap are responsible for some of gaming’s most well-known titles, including Bejeweled, Peggle and Zuma among others. However, PopCap’s most famous game -arguably- is of course Plants vs. Zombies. Plants vs. Zombies has appeared on practically every current-generation console, PC, mobile devices and more recently on tablet computers such as the iPad.
It was the fact that Plants vs. Zombies became a smash hit that allowed the team over at PopCap Games to expand the game onto other platforms; testimony to just how big Plants vs. Zombies has become (along with undying support for both the game and the development team from fans).
As many PopCap fans will undoubtedly be aware of, EA -quite some time ago- acquired the studio; officially making PopCap Games a division of Electronic Arts. Since then, things have been rather quiet over at the studio — yes, PopCap has released several games since the EA purchase, however none have been as important or noteworthy for consumers than the studio’s announcement today.
PopCap Games has officially announced that they are actively working on a Plants vs. Zombies sequel; no name has been given yet for the upcoming game, however for now PopCap are referring it to as simply the “Plants vs. Zombies sequel”. Unfortunately, that’s all the information that’s currently available, with PopCap stating in a press release that:
“The sequel to Plants vs. Zombies is expected to launch by late spring 2013, and will include a bevy of new features, settings, and situations, designed to delight the franchise’s tens of millions of fans around the world. No other details of the highly anticipated new installment in the franchise are available at this time…”
Personally, I’m extremely excited to see what these new features will be.
