Here we are, another year, another crowded holiday release schedule. People should expect it by now since it’s going to be this way, year-in and year-out as publishers will always push their biggest games during this particular time of the year.
One such game that fits the bill is Capcom’s Resident Evil 6. The sixth iteration of the survival horror franchise is schedule to be out this coming November –smack dab right in the middle of the warzone.
If you think Capcom’s wary of being overtaken by games such as the annual Call of Duty, or its “rival” Medal of Honor, think again. During last week’s Game Developers Conference (GDC), Capcom’s SVP of planning and business development Christian Svensson talked about why they’re releasing in the crowded holiday season and he even has a few choice words for their competitors to go along with it.
“We’re saying, ‘Get the hell out of the way.’ We’re a big game. We’re letting you know we’re coming. We’re giving people plenty of room to move around us. The other part is the nuts and bolts of it. If we put our stake in the ground, we can start lining up retail channel promotions, etc.”
Do you think Capcom made the right move in scheduling Resident Evil 6’s release date during the holiday buying spree or will it get lost amidst the FPS’ that always sell like gangbusters during this time of the year?
Resident Evil 6 will be out this November 20 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
