Bethesda had remained quiet about when they thought Dawngaurd would be out for PC and PS3. The first Skyrim downloadable content launched over a month ago on the Xbox 360, because Microsoft paid to have the exclusive rights to the first DLC launched for Skyrim. Although the rights only extended for one month, after that Bethesda could launch the DLC on any platform they chose.

Today it was finally announced that Dawnguard is currently out on Steam for PC users. Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing for Bethesda Pete Hines announced that Dawnguard launched on Steam today for $19.99.

However, the news is not so good for PS3 users who will have to continue to wait for the Skyrim Dawnguard  DLC. According to Bethesda the content is all up and running on the PS3, it is just not running very well. Here is Bethesda’s official statement on the matter:

“not yet satisfied with Dawnguard’s performance on the PS3. We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard, but we aren’t going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people’s experience in Skyrim will be worse. We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We’re as disappointed as our fans when that isn’t the case, but we’ll continue to push for that reality.”

You can’t blame Bethesda for being careful with PS3 DLC content after they have seemingly run their PS3 fan base into the ground with terrible ports and bugs that still need to be patched. Bethesda needs to try and regain confidence in their PlayStation fan base and releasing buggy Dawngaurd DLC would not be the way to accomplish that.

I was one of the fortunate ones who installed Skyrim to my Xbox 360 hard drive and basically had no major bugs or crashes. So I really sympathize with all the PlayStation fans who have gone through hell just to play Skyrim. At this point I can’t ever recommend anyone buy a Bethesda product on a PlayStation unit because of all the issues people have had.

I would like to hear from some PS3 users who have bought Skyrim for the system, how has your experience been? Were any of you lucky enough to play through Skyrim without many issues or was the experience ruined because of major bugs and crashes?
