Variety of all places may have the first major scoop on Rocksteady’s next Batman project after Batman: Arkham City. According to Variety the game will be a Silver Age (1956 to c.1970) based prequel where the game will feature at least some members of the Justice League of America. The game will apparently be a ”highly stylized” prequel centered around the first meeting of Batman and the Joker.

The game will feature a style that is very similar to that of Silver Age comics which is around the time when Batman first started teaming up with members of the Justice League like Superman and The Flash.

Now on to the bad news, according to Variety the game will most likely not be released until 2014 at the earliest. Warner Bros. is trying to build up consumer awareness of the Justice League of America before the scheduled JLA movie hits theaters in 2015.

Neither Warner Bros. or Roscksteady has responded to the report at this time; meaning all of this is still just rumors for the moment. However, if this wasn’t true you will most likely hear a denial from both sides within the next few days.

As for me I am a little disappointed with the news (if it is true) because I was one of the few people who was hoping the next Batman game that Rocksteady worked on was a Batman Beyond title. And honestly I am a little concerned if this news is true, because as much as I trust Rocksteady, this project sounds like Warner Bros. may have there hands a little to deep in this game.

I am hoping that Warner Bros. didn’t force this idea down the throats of Rocksteady because they are so desperate to bring awareness to the Justice League of America movie they are trying to get off the ground. But at this point it is too early to say anything definitively, but I just hope Warner Bros. knows enough to stay out of  Rocksteady’s way.

Although with a release date of 2014 at minimum, you can almost consider it a guarantee that the game will be a next generation console game. Is a Silver Age stylized Batman game something you would be interested in, or would you be disappointed that the game is not a direct sequel to Batman: Arkham City?
