Five of the Best Video Game Sidekicks
Where would our brave heroes be without their trusty sidekicks? Probably dead and nonexistent in the gaming world. Most of the time, our heroes are stealing the thunder of some of these wonderful sidekicks. It’s time they get some light shed on them and their efforts.
Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog
Most of the time I refer to Tails as being mentally handicapped. Every time I play Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Tails follows me throughout each level, most of the time Tails is missing ledges and dying and then helicoptering back to where I am. He can’t seem to hang on to his life even if his life depends on it. Although, I will say that many times Tails has taken the fall for me, Sonic, when I could be the one dying. He doesn’t lose lives, but I do.
Goofy and Donald in Kingdom Hearts
There’s no one trustier to have by your side than Disney favorites Goofy and Donald Duck. When battling the evil forces of the Heartless and the Nobodies, you can easily rely on Goofy and Donald to have your back. Would you really want anyone else by your side while traveling through all the different worlds of Disney franchises?
Sully from Uncharted
When Nathan Drake was just a kid running the streets of Colombia and plotting his next adventure, he was picked up by a guy working for some not so great people, a guy by the name of Sully. When those not-so-great people tried to kill Drake, Sully stuck up for the kid and took him under his wing. He noticed that Drake had a sense of escape, adventure and he had common street sense, everything one needed in a job stealing artifacts. Sully has been by Drake’s side for forever, and when we almost lost him in the third installment, Drake’s world almost fell apart. Sully has put his life on the line an innumerable amount of times to save Drake and Drake has done the same for him. They are a team that no one can defeat.
The Dragonfly in Spyro The Dragon
The Dragonfly is your beacon of life, literally. Depending on the dragonfly’s color, that tells your health with the most luminous being the healthiest. This little dragonfly stands by Spyro’s side throughout the entire game and when he’s around he picks up gems for you so you don’t have to kill yourself running after every single one. You don’t notice how important and helpful his presence is until you are down at your last bit of life and he has disappeared. You find you were so used to him picking up gems that now it feels a little harder to pick them up without him. As long as you feed him the butterflies, he will keep shining on for you.
Daxter from Jak and Daxter
Jak and Daxter was created by one of my favorite developers, Naughty Dog. My boyfriend gives me a lot of grief for never having played this game. For some reason, it just wasn’t a game I happened to pick up as a kid. I was stuck on Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. When Jak isn’t turning Daxter into an ottsel, he’s relying on his best buddy. At the beginning of Jak II, Daxter actually rescues Jak and becomes a playable character for the first time in the games.
