After weeks of fierce league play, and a playoff filled with incredible games, the North American LCS Spring Season winded down today. It had been an incredible playoffs, filled with epic upsets, making it a rememberable event. Before the season ended, however, there was still two more series left to play.
The first series was the match for third place, between two teams, Curse and Vulcan, who both had their sights on the seasons championship, yet fell one series short. Nevertheless, they both wanted to win this final series to help hold onto some momentum going into the next season. Curse, the team which seemed to be the favorite, started out fast, taking the first game. Things began to fall apart for them in the second game, however. Vulcan was able to capitalize on Curse’s mistakes, and were able to take the second and third game, clinching the series, as well as the third place finish and a $15,000 prize. Curse was still able to walk away with a respectable fourth place finish and a $10,000 prize.
After Vulcan clinched the third place, it meant there was only one more series to play. The story behind this finals could not be any better. In one corner, there was Team Solo Mid, long considered the best team in North America. Their opponent would be the young, yet incredibly talented Good Game University, who barely made it into the playoffs with a sixth seed. Team Solo Mid started the series off strong, with an impressive win, yet Good Game University came back with a win to even up the series. Team Solo Mid took game three though, putting Good Game University on their back foot. Good Game University showed incredible resilience and took the fourth game, sending the series to a fifth and final game. Team Solo Mid’s experience helped them in the final game as they were able to win, taking first place and a $50,000 prize. Good Game University still had an incredible run through the playoffs and definitely earned their second place finish, as well as a $25,000 prize.
The Spring Season of LCS was quite incredible. It was action-packed, giving fans their fix of close games, as well as blow outs. The playoffs, could not have been better. The most impressive story behind this season was that of Good Game University, who exploded on to the scene and came within one game of finishing first place. That title, however, belongs to Team Solo Mid, who showed us that they are still the team to beat in the North American League of Legends scene.
