Without a doubt Nintendo is having a bit of a rough time when it comes to navigating this disaster that is the global economy as an iconic entertainment brand, as for the second year in a row they’ve posted losses. That being said, if all that you are taking away from the situation is doom and gloom you might not be seeing the whole story that exists here, as Nintendo is still seeing a good deal of success with one of their most recognizable and iconic characters in Mario. According to a recent report, absolutely everything that is Mario-related is still a bestseller for Nintendo, which is probably a good indication as to why they keep making so many Mario games.
On the Nintendo 3DS the three top selling games are as follows; Super Mario 3D (8.29 million), Mario Kart 7 (8.08 million) and New Super Mario Bros. 2 (6.42 million. Animal Crossing: New Leaf sold 3.86 million, coming in at fourth, but as you can see, it isn’t Mario-related. On the Nintendo Wii U the two top selling titles are Nintendo Land with 2.6 million and Super Mario Bros. U at 2.15 million. As you can see, the Mario legacy lives on strong with Nintendo.
