Metal Gear Solid 5 is going to be an ambitious project, with Big Boss being the main character for both games. The Phantom Pain has finally been revealed for what it is and gamers have all the reasons to be excited about both parts of the Metal Gear Solid 5 “saga”.
The fact that long time voice actor David Hayter is not coming back to voice Big Boss, however, kinda ruined the excitement for Western players: apparently Konami didn’t even ask him to come back.
Some have speculated that the reason behind all this is because Big Boss is getting older in these two games and that Richard Doyle, who voiced the character in Metal Gear Solid 4, may come back.
This isn’t probably the reason behind the choice: it’s been announced today that Akio Otsuka, who has voiced Solid Snake and Big Boss in Japan ever since the first Metal Gear game will come back to voice Big Boss in both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. If it was all just about Big Boss getting older, Otsuka wouldn’t have come back to reprise his role.
With the huge uproar over this situation, Konami will probably make an official statement very soon. We still don’t know anything behind the decision but if fans will keep being vocal on the matter as much as they have been these two days, maybe things will change. We’ll keep you updated on the matter.
