Nintendo are finally jumping aboard the NFC trend with Pokemon Rumble U, joining franchises like Skylanders and the upcoming Disney Infinity. This means players can purchase collectible Pokemon figures and transfer them into the game using the GamePad’s NFC reader.
The figure is placed on the squares icon on the left side of the GamePad, which is where the figure’s data will be read. Japanese Pokemon fans will be able to buy them from Pokemon Center stores for 200 Yen (around $2.09 / £1.40), while the game itself will cost 1,800 Yen ($18.81 / £12.50).
While all 649 Pokemon are in the game, there just currently only 6 standard figures and 1 “Special” figure which are set to go on sale on launch day. Among these, series mascot Pikachu is the only one to be confirmed so far.
Pokemon Rumble U is set for a Spring 2013 release date in Japan, and has yet to be announced overseas.
