Back at this year’s CES two months ago, we saw a lot of different companies showing off their move towards gaming with their various devices and technology. One of the most interesting things we saw came from a company called Xi3, and in particular, their mini-computers, such as the Piston PC. We found out then that Valve and Xi3 have partnered together in creating a Steam Box, with one of the multiple prototypes in development being the Xi3’s Piston PC. This went along with Valve CEO Gabe Newell’s talks about bringing PC gaming to the living room and since then, we hadn’t heard or seen anything new from Xi3 or Valve concerning this piece of hardware.
Well, Infinity Ward, the developers of multiple Call of Duty games, recently posted on their Twitter and Facebook, a photo (which you can see above) of the Xi3 Piston PC with its own Infinity Ward logo, sitting atop another unknown device, with an iPhone sitting by it. Interestingly, on their Facebook, Infinity Ward captioned the photo, “Game development (phone for scale)”, while on their Twitter, the same photo is captioned, “What’s this? (phone for scale reference)”.
The fact that the Xi3 mini-PC is branded with an Infinity Ward logo and the developer mentioned “game development” could mean a new approach that the next Call of Duty game might be making. Kotaku speculates if Infinity Ward could be partnering with either Xi3 or Valve to possibly release the next Call of Duty game on this piece of hardware.
What do you think of this idea? Got any predictions of your own? I’d love to hear them.
