Disgaea D2 is the direct sequel of the original Disgaea: all the four sequels of the game feature different characters and despite ten years from the original game’s release, the main characters of the Disgaea: Hour Of Darkness still hold a special place in the hearts of fans.
Nippon Ichi President Souhei Nikawa has explained the reasons behind the decision to make a direct sequel to Disgaea after so many years: Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness is almost a tribute to fans, a big thank for for the loyal fanbase which has been supporting the company for so long.
For this reason the game has been filled with a lot of easter eggs and fan service: these are purely intentional and must be viewed as part of this big thank you to fans.
Nikawa also adds how the series reception in the west has been overwhelming and almost unexpected: it’s rare to see such a devotion to a publisher after only a few years. Nippon Ichi is truly grateful to fans and all the gameplay improvements on the Disgaea formula will make the game even more engaging.
Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness will officially launch exclusively on Ps3 this Autumn in North America and Europe.
