With all the talk about the next generation Sony console being announced in the next few weeks, Microsoft will need to step up their software development to stay competitive. The truth is Microsoft has the most work to do when it comes to selling a next generation console. Towards the end of this console generation Microsoft has focused on Kinect games and casual titles instead of building franchises for the future.
Well today a rumor has popped up the Microsoft has four new IPs in development that will likely be exclusive to Microsoft’s next generation console. According to Jonathan Browne a production manager with Microsoft first-party publishing group, he has helped four new IPs go from the planning stages to being in the production phase. All of this information is from his LinkedIn profile, so this news has not been confirmed by Microsoft.
The big question is, are these new IPs going to be more for hardcore gamers or are they going to be more casual games like Kinect driven titles. Microsoft really needs to start appealing to the hardcore gamers (I hate using that term), because they are the ones who are generally the first ones to buy new consoles.
In other words, if Microsoft does not come out with a strong launch lineup for their next generation console filled with games that are closer to Gears of War than Kinect Sports; then most gamers will just wait until Sony releases their next console.
