In a somewhat surprising development, Wargaming the studio behind World of Tanks the MMO announced today that they have purchased Day 1 studios the development team behind F.E.A.R. 3. Wargaming.net is most notably been only focused on PC games for Windows, but this acquisition will be the studio’s first foray into console gaming.
Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming was very forthcoming with how big it is for Wargaming to move into the console business; and that Wargaming is very excited to share their knowledge and resources with Day 1 studios.
Wargaming bought the F.E.A.R. 3 developer for $20 million who was currently working on a game called Reign of Thunder. However, the status of the game is unknown since a publishing deal with Konami fell through. Wargaming would not comment on the future of Reign of Thunder, but did say that Day 1 is currently working on an “unannounced title”.
As for the future of Day 1, they will become more or less part of Wargaming, as they will be “integrated” into the company and take on the new name of Wargaming West.
