With all the recent rumblings regarding the new entertainment apps coming to the Xbox 360 this year, Sony is not to be undone, they recently announced that the Epix app will be coming to the PS3 soon.  You’ll be able to stream tons of movies and television directly to your PS3 and Vita.  With more than 3,000 choices, the app will feature a ton of content, you’ll even get to watch concerts and sporting events.  It’ll cost you a premium subscription to access all of the videos, so those who were a expecting a free service will be disappointed.

It’ll be hard to get people to switch from Netflix to Epix, but we’ll have to see when the app becomes available. Epix actually had a long deal with Netflix, to stream their content through the Netflix service, but that contract is up.  Epix is currently partnered up with the  Amazon Instant Video service, so you might be seeing duplicate programs on both services.  There is no firm release date yet, but sony has stated that you can expect the app to hit the PS3 this quarter, PS Vita users will have to wait till the spring. It’ll be intriguing to see if the app will be worth the price, so stay tuned.
