Tomb Raider has often been favorably compared to the Uncharted series because of the action set pieces that we have been shown. Well today we have heard rumors that Tomb Raider may be following even more in Uncharted’s footsteps by including multiplayer. A listing on GAME, a UK retailer’s website lists multiplayer as a feature for the Tomb Raider game.
The listing mentions that you will be able to play as “Lara’s Shipmates or Yamatai’s Scavengers” in numerous different multiplayer modes. The listing was almost pulled down immediately, but Square Enix has promised us a surprise announcement about the game that according to the press release “change the way you play Tomb Raider forever.”
Retailer listings have been wrong in the past so I would take this news with a grain of salt. However, the description of the multiplayer was detailed enough to indicate there might be some truth behind this rumor. I hope if this rumor is true that developing this multiplayer aspect has not taken away from any development time and resources for the single player component of Tomb Raider.
