Sometimes I’m not sure how to treat Spike’s annual Video Game Awards event, and I’m sure that many people feel the same way. Is it something that should be taken seriously, is it a joke or is it something in between that should be taken sort of seriously, but not that seriously? Clearly, I’m at a loss, but that won’t stop them from moving forward, as they are set to air on Friday, December 7th on Spike TV here in the United States. With this comes online voting by you, the gamers of the world, so head over there and have your voice heard in a mildly democratic way over what game is the best, etc.
You’ll also note that some of the nominated games — and notably some of the games not nominated for certain awards — will cause a bit of a debate not only on the Spike.com site but online as well in gamer circles. The Game of the Year list is as follows;
Assassin’s Creed III
Mass Effect 3
The Walking Dead: The Game
There are some obvious omissions in the list, namely Halo 4, Borderlands 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which has some fans up-in-arms already, but the truth is, those games have only been out a very short time and with the awards on December 7th, the jury is out if they can be voted upon for such a prestigious title. It should be noted that those games are included in other categories, listed as many times as possible. Then again, their Wii category is combined with Wii U and as of right now, well, the Wii U isn’t out nor, obviously, are any games.
I’m not sure that there is a big loss by not having those bigger games on the list, but seeing Journey on there is really a great thing to see as it does deserve a lot of the critical acclaim and attention that it has received.
