Bulletstorm was a game that peopled liked but not a lot of people actually played the game. It was a game that bombed even though it had Epic and Cliff Bleszinski helping the development process. The game was officially developed by game studio People Can Fly who are also very famous for creating the cult classic game from last generation Painkiller.
Today it was announced that the former founder of People Can Fly (now owned by Epic) Adrian Chmielarz who left the studio earlier this year, has formed a new independent video game studio called The Astronauts. Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki also former members of People Can Fly will be joining Chmielarz at the new studio The Astronauts.
In addition, it was also announced that they have licensed the Unreal Engine 3 and are planning to use it on their first game which at this time is scheduled to be released sometime next year. However, this is a multi-game deal so The Astronauts will be using the Unreal Engine 3 on future game titles as well. Chmielarz had this to say about using the Unreal Engine 3:
“We’ve worked with UE3 for the last six years, and we know its power, Choosing Unreal Engine technology for our future was the textbook definition of a no-brainer. We are on a quest to map uncharted waters, and Epic’s tech provides the stability required for success.”
As for the game itself not much is known at this time, but since the studio is independent I would suspect that the game will probably be released for PSN, Xbox Live, and probably PC. The one other thing to note is, that they licensed the Unreal Engine 3 and not 4 so their first game will not be running on the most up-to-date technology. This probably has more to do with the fact that Epic is probably charging an arm and a leg to license Unreal Engine 4, because the technology is brand new.
How many of you out there played Bulletstorm, did you like it and are you hoping for a sequel or was the game something of a letdown?
