Indie games have been picking up a lot of steam over the last few years, with smaller developers getting a lot of mainstream attention for their unique game ideas in a world of big budget titles that can at times underwhelm for the money. Hotline Miami has been one of the most-talked about games for this fall that doesn’t have a major publisher’s muscle behind it, and quite honestly, it seems like the kind of game most major publishers would try to avoid for its content, which is both violent and disturbing. We hear a lot about games being violent and disturbing, but a game like Hotline Miami makes a game like Grand Theft Auto look about as tame as Harry Potter in comparison.
The game has been making the media circuits as well as hitting up some big shows, taking home awards and building up some serious steam with gamers who want to get their hands on the top-down 2D murder/mayhem/beat ‘em up game. There has yet to be a release date for the game, that is, until now. Today Dennaton Games announced the official release date for Hotline Miami, as well as announcing that pre-orders will now be accepted through Steam and GetGames for $9, knocking off $1 off of the suggested retail price of $10. Pre-ordering from GetGames will also get you a bonus level, GetGames EXPOsed.
That leaves just a few short weeks for gamers having to wait for their chance to run through what has been described as mind-numbingly difficult levels and crack some skulls. Of course, the violence isn’t just the main attraction, as the retro neon style and the psychological thriller aspects of the game have also become integral in exciting players about the upcoming title. So head over to GetGames or Steam to pre-order a copy for yourself today.
