<p>After some image teases last week, Avalanche Studios (via <a title="December Cover Revealed – Just Cause 3" href="http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/11/11/december-cover-revealed-just-cause-3-29401230.aspx" target="_blank">Game Informer</a>) has finally announced the long-awaited, highly anticipated game sequel, Just Cause 3. The franchise is going next-gen with the latest installment. The announcement is great news. Just Cause 2 was an infinitely fun and playable open-world, action adventure game. The possibilities for the way next-gen technology will open up the world of Just Cause are incredibly tantalizing. Rico Rodriguez will be back; and based on the early artwork, so will his grappling hook.</p>

<p>The most satisfying element of Just Cause 2 was the amount of freedom it provided the player. The island of Panau offered a large number of places to visit, enemies to fight and there was no limit to what you could do in combat. Aside from the grappling hook mechanic, one of my favorite things with Just Cause 2, was the vehicular combat. Rico could drive cars, motorcycles and boats for lots of explosive mayhem. The limit to the damage Rico could cause was only limited by the player&#8217;s own imagination. Not to mention that Rico could fight off of the doors of the cars. The grappling hook was a fun tool for getting around buildings and disabling enemies and hooking them to explosives. The open-world game also featured a ton of playable content for the single-player campaign, and that is a big plus. Judging from the early report, the limitless fun and craziness from Just Cause 2 will be back for Just Cause 3.</p>
<p>The third game is reportedly mostly set in a Mediterranean archipelago. Game Informer&#8217;s report mentions that a playable demo features improved parachute and grappling mechanics. In addition, Rico Rodriguez now has access to a wingsuit. I love the wingsuit addition, which should make for some fun, death-defying escapes from certain doom and explosions. The early preview from Game Informer exclaims how smooth the demo is, so I am really hyped up.</p>
<p>A developer video interview in the above aforementioned report contains some concept art, showing Rico and another character tethered by a cable to a fuel tank that is flying through the air. If that is the type of craziness that can be expected from the sequel, count me in. Other artwork shows some more urban areas. Generally, I prefer an open-world action game like Just Cause as opposed to Grand Theft Auto because of the heavier action-adventure focus. Fans of big action movies will be pleased since Just Cause plays around with the tropes of that genre very well. I am very much looking forward to Just Cause 3.</p>
