WWE 2K15 MyCareer Mode Flaw: Lack of Current Roster Superstars

2K Games has revealed the details of MyCareer Mode for the upcoming WWE 2K15 release. Certain details were already well known beforehand. Fans knew that WWE’s developmental program, WWE NXT, would be featured in the game. Essentially, players are able to take a wrestler from the start of his/her career from NXT to the main event at WrestleMania. 2K Games modeled the gameplay mode off of MyCareer mode for the NBA 2K franchise. Unfortunately, that means that players are only allowed to use a create-a-wrestler variant or CAW for MyCareer Mode. Actual current roster Superstars are not available. The non-utilization of current roster Superstars for something like a MyCareer Mode has become tiresome, and I wish sports and sports entertainment games would abandon the practice.

There is nothing wrong with CAWs or 2K Games using a character created in a Creation Suite. However, sometimes I would rather use an existing Superstar instead of a created one. In general, while CAW options have improved over the years, I still prefer the in-game character models. I want to take Daniel Bryan through MyCareer mode and not a created Daniel Bryan.

This issue has spread to MMA games as well. EA Sports UFC has the same issue for Career Mode. Sometimes I do not want to use a created character. I want to use an existing one and take that character through the adventures of the Career Mode. Why is this a problem? I once tried to explain my desire to developers of EA Sports MMA. They looked at me like I had two heads. When UFC Undisputed 3 came out, current roster fighters were playable for the Career Mode.

To be fair, the WWE 2K15 MyCareer Mode is not a total loss. The inclusion of NXT, real-life trainer and former WWE Superstar Bill DeMott is really cool; not to mention all the other NXT Superstars who will be in the game: Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn and Corey Graves, to name a few. Even Vickie Guerrero is confirmed for the game as the General Manager of NXT. These are all great additions for the gameplay. I like the feature that, as a wrestler, players will progress to NXT to the main WWE roster to competing for titles on pay-per-view events. All that is great, but why does it have to always be done with a CAW?

WWE 2K15 is due out October 28 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, featuring MyCareer Mode, hit the shelves on November 18.
