Dead by Daylight Loses Chucky License, Killer Leaves in November

Marcus WebbBy Marcus Webb·

Chucky is set to leave Dead by Daylight. TheGamer reports that Behaviour Interactive confirmed they’ll remove the character in November. Players have just over a month left to purchase him.

This removal adds to what DualShockers describes as a growing list of horror icons disappearing from the game. Fans are starting to question how well Behaviour handles its licensed content.

The timing is unfortunate for the studio. Dead by Daylight launched on June 14, 2016, and Behaviour recently celebrated a decade of the game with a retrospective on its origins. A decade of licensed crossovers has become a core part of the game’s identity, and each license expiration undermines that legacy.

Despite this, the game still boasts a large player base. Steam reports 63,016 current players, with a 78% positive rating across 378,078 reviews. Metacritic gives it a score of 72. These figures highlight the game’s resilience as a live-service title, but the license removals reveal the risks of relying on borrowed intellectual property.

The sources reviewed don’t clarify what happens to players who already have Chucky. They also don’t indicate if his cosmetics and related content will leave with him. So far, Behaviour hasn’t announced any replacement licenses.

By The Numbers
Current Steam players 63,016
Steam reviews 78% positive (378,078 reviews)
Metacritic score 72
Current Steam price $7.99
Original release date June 14, 2016

Community Pulse

Overall, community sentiment leans negative across the ten signals we tracked. However, most complaints center on balance issues rather than Chucky’s departure. One frustrated Steam reviewer stated, “the game is currently in an unplayable and unfair state,” adding that the developers have “completely ruined the game balance with an undeniable bias toward Killers.” This frustration amplifies the license news. Players who are already skeptical of Behaviour’s decisions are now witnessing content they paid for vanish.

What To Watch

  • The exact removal date. Reports suggest November, and that’s when the purchase window closes.
  • Ownership policy. Behaviour needs to clarify if players who already own Chucky will keep access.
  • Player count and review trends. Keep an eye on whether the 63,016 concurrent players and the 78% positive rating hold as more licensed content leaves.
