Bloober Team CEO Wants Physical Games Made ‘For As Long As Possible’

Sarah ChenBy Sarah Chen·

Bloober Team CEO Tymon Smektala believes “the physical element of gaming will always be there.” He wants to keep creating physical games “for as long as possible,” according to GamesRadar.

Smektala sees this position as both personal and commercial. “This is the gaming I know, and this is the gaming I expect,” he shared. GamesRadar highlighted this viewpoint, connecting it to both Bloober Team and Broken Mirror Games.

The studio has solid commercial backing. Bloober developed the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which Konami published on October 8, 2024. The game boasts a 94% positive rating from 35,380 Steam reviews, and the Steam version retails for $69.99.

Bloober is also expanding. In May, the studio expanded its leadership and announced it has seven games in development. With a larger slate, the commitment to physical media becomes more significant, as each project will have to decide on its format. The current information doesn’t specify which upcoming titles will see disc releases.

The console version of Silent Hill 2 Remake has faced some challenges. In August, Konami looked into a patch that disrupted PS5 visuals. Since Konami publishes the game, the decisions about physical releases are theirs, not solely Bloober’s.

Smektala’s comments express an intent rather than announce a product. There’s no information available on release dates, formats, or pricing. The player base on PC has stabilized, with Steam reporting 603 concurrent players as of now, almost two years after launch.

The sentiment data is limited. All three sampled Steam reviews share the same text, reflecting a single opinion rather than a trend. This reviewer is flagged as positive but criticizes the remake’s camera, stating that the developers should “just make it a horror game with fixed camera.” This situation highlights that a 94% score can still come with design complaints, even from players who recommend the game.
