Rogue Prince of Persia Gets Physical Release on PS5, Switch 1 & 2

Sarah ChenBy Sarah Chen·

Evil Empire’s The Rogue Prince of Persia is now out in physical format for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 1, and Nintendo Switch 2. Ubisoft confirmed this rollout through its official news channels. The PS5 version hit the market on April 10, while players with Switch consoles can grab their copies now.

The PS5 release features a premium Steelbook ‘Immortal’ Edition. This gives collectors a good reason to buy again if they already own the digital version. It’s rare to see physical releases for roguelikes, making this a solid choice for players who prefer physical copies over digital ones.

The Rogue Prince of Persia first launched in Steam Early Access back in May 2024. Evil Empire, known for its work on the acclaimed Dead Cells post-launch content, developed the game. Set in ancient Persia, this 2D side-scrolling roguelite is published under the Ubisoft label. Its arrival on both Switch generations shows Ubisoft’s commitment to reaching a larger audience as the Switch 2 ecosystem gains traction.

Let’s clarify that the game data linked to this story also mentions Assassin’s Creed Shadows, another Ubisoft title. Community frustration about that game’s $90 USD DLC requirements for achievements has stirred up controversy on Steam. However, this issue has nothing to do with Rogue Prince of Persia‘s physical launch. While they share a publisher, they’re completely different products from separate development teams.

Nintendo Life confirmed the availability for both Switch 1 and Switch 2 at the same time. This fits into Nintendo’s strategy for cross-generational releases during the early days of the Switch 2. PlayStation Universe detailed the PS5 Steelbook edition, noting the specific April 10 release date for that platform. The physical distribution will go through standard retail channels.

PS5 Special Edition Steelbook ‘Immortal’ Edition

Lately, community sentiment around the broader Ubisoft catalog has been tense, primarily due to monetization issues with other titles. One Steam reviewer expressed frustration about Assassin’s Creed Shadows: “Avoid. If you hunt to get 100% completions, prepare to shell out $90 USD in DLC to get the last achievement for that hundo.” However, this negativity hasn’t affected Rogue Prince of Persia, which received a better reception during its Early Access phase.

What To Watch

  • Switch 2 sales performance: Keep an eye on whether Rogue Prince of Persia gains traction on Switch 2 hardware. This will be an early indicator of how third-party roguelites perform on Nintendo’s new platform as it ramps up.
  • Full 1.0 content scope: Evil Empire has a solid history of post-launch support from its Dead Cells days. Watch for any additional content or a formal 1.0 designation that might accompany or follow the physical release.
  • Ubisoft’s physical publishing strategy: With Ubisoft facing financial pressure in 2025, its approach to physical releases for mid-tier titles like this one will reflect its broader decisions about retail presence and revenue diversification.
