Street Fighter 6 Year 4 Adds FF7’s Tifa Lockhart to Roster

Alex MercerBy Alex Mercer·

At the Summer Game Fest 2026, Capcom announced that Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII will join Street Fighter 6 as a playable DLC character in the Year 4 pass. Fans have speculated about this crossover for years, especially since Tekken has consistently passed up the chance.

Tifa will come alongside three original fighters: Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch. This confirmation aligns with leaks that surfaced before the event, and Polygon reported that the rumors about Tifa were spot on. Although Capcom hasn’t revealed a specific release date, Nintendo Life suggests she should arrive early 2027, likely timed with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which launches on Switch 2 in Spring 2027.

This crossover makes sense for both companies. Since its launch in June 2023, Street Fighter 6 has received 84% positive reviews based on 29,411 ratings on Steam. Currently, there are 36,490 active players, which is a great retention rate for a three-year-old fighting game priced at $19.99. Tifa is among the most iconic characters from Square Enix, and her fighting style fits seamlessly into a brawler’s moveset without needing much creative tweaking.

The idea that Street Fighter 6 is doing what Tekken won’t, as Push Square pointed out, holds real significance. Tekken has brought in crossover characters like Noctis Lucis Caelum and Negan, yet it has never included Tifa, despite years of fan demand. Capcom securing this partnership is a notable win for Street Fighter 6‘s ongoing DLC strategy.

Year 4 shows Capcom’s commitment to the game’s post-launch updates. The previous season introduced Ingrid in late spring 2026, a character Game Rant discussed before her debut. This suggests Capcom is aiming for a steady pace of about one major character per quarter. It’s still unclear if Tifa will be part of a complete Year 4 pass or sold as a standalone premium option.

By The Numbers
SF6 Launch Date June 2023
Steam Review Score 84% positive
Total Steam Reviews 29,411
Current Steam Players 36,490
Current Steam Price $19.99

The community’s response to the game has been more mixed than the positive numbers might indicate. One reviewer on Steam expressed a common concern: “Great game, trash management. Unacceptably slow and shallow content updates — outfits, stages, etc. Unfair balancing that screams dev favoritism for certain characters. Zero communication.” This sentiment reflects the overall community feedback, which leans negative regarding Capcom’s support pace, even though the game was well-received at its launch.

What To Watch

  • Year 4 pass pricing and structure: Capcom hasn’t confirmed if Tifa will be part of a traditional character pass or sold separately at a premium price, which could really influence how players react.
  • Tifa’s moveset reveal: How closely her fighting style matches her mechanics from FF7 Remake, including Limit Breaks, will impact whether she feels authentic or generic in SF6.
  • FF7 Revelation marketing tie-in: Keep an eye on whether Square Enix and Capcom align Tifa’s SF6 release with the Spring 2027 launch of Final Fantasy VII Revelation for cross-promotion.
