Keeping the Peace with Your Spouse During the Holidays

1 min

Holidays can be a very stressful time of year, especially during this crazy year. From being stuck at home to deciding where to spend the holidays, tensions could be high between you and your spouse. We have some tips to help you keep the peace so that everyone is in a cheerful mood this holiday season.

Sit Back and Relax!

First off, don’t freak out! Now is the time to enjoy the season and learn to relax on your own. Maybe watch a holiday movie or sip some cocoa to relax. When you are relaxed, this will help keep your spouse at ease as well. Remember, everything is a learning process. So, don’t be too hard on yourself and take the time to learn how to navigate through the stressful season by keeping your emotions in control.

Communicate!

It is always a great idea to talk about your feelings. Talk with your spouse, your therapist, or trusting friends about how you are feeling. And make sure to be aware of your own feelings as well. You have to understand your feelings to be able to properly convey them. Communication is a two-way street so make sure you are also listening to your spouse.

Don’t Overreact!

There is a time and place for everything. Have an issue? Bring it up during the right time and at the right place. Not before a Christmas party or family event. Also, pick your battles wisely. Every little thing might be annoying you at the moment, but is it worth a fight during the most wonderful time of year? If you put in the effort, your spouse will notice and try to keep the peace as well.

Attend Couples Therapy

You might want to even consider increasing your couples therapy Scottsdale sessions. This time of year can be hard on anyone and a professional can help you navigate through it.
