Simple Productivity Tips for Quarantine & Beyond

2 min

If you’re like most people who have been quarantined a good portion of 2020, your typical daily routine has been flipped upside down. What used to look like long commutes to and from the office via public transportation, in-person lunch meetings and coffee-on-the-go, have now morphed into a completely different homebound scenario. Whether you welcome the slow down or your life seems more chaotic now than ever (not to mention the added pandemic stress or homeschooling), it’s actually a great opportunity to refine your productivity and set habits that will last beyond quarantine. Here’s a few simple tips for productivity during quarantine that will likely stick with you when things go back to a ‘new normal’.

Set Time for Just Yourself

This is an important aspect to keep productivity on track. You might find yourself longing for those 50 minutes that are typically spent alone in the car on your way to work. Or maybe you’ve been catching up on sleep during quarantine, so you wait until the last possible second to roll out of bed and your day starts full throttle. Whatever the case, you are in charge of the hours in your day and no one is going to set aside this time for you. Set your alarm to wake up before the rest of your house or set aside time at night when the kids go to bed. Whether you meditate, get a workout in or even just check emails in silence – the time is yours and will tremendously help you be more productive if you can gather your thoughts.

Take Frequent Breaks

With no errands to run or appointments to attend (or kids at home), it’s easy to get buried in your work and not come up for air. However, taking frequents breaks is actually an important part of being uber productive. Even if you have to set a timer to remind yourself that it’s time to get your mind off your work – do it! For example, you could set a timer and every two hours for 15 minutes, go for a walk around your neighborhood for fresh air. Or maybe, you’d like to try something more innovative such as playing an online game in your living room or on your computer for a break. This recent survey about the lives of gamers shows that the study participants believe gaming aktualne bonusy bez depozytu fosters productivity, with 54 percent of respondents playing online games at work. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you’re getting those mental breaks throughout your workday.

Minimize Distractions

Maybe you’ve had to work through major challenges during quarantine when it comes to distractions. Whether you have kids who need your attention or a spouse who is attending their own virtual meetings – the distractions in our homes can be endless. There’s no time like the present to minimize them or learn work arounds. This could look a few different ways but here’s options:

  • Figure out which hours you are the most productive and tasks that require in-depth concentration or your full attention should be completed during this time.
  • Check emails and make your to-do list when the kids are occupied with an activity.
  • Designate a sitter or specific hours throughout your day to be productive with minimal distractions. (Or trade off with a neighbor)
  • If you’re a morning person, wake up a few hours before your household and knock things out.
  • Or, if it works better for you, use late evenings to catch up on your to-do list while the kids throw on a movie.

The important part is that you start thinking outside the box and get creative with your resources. You’ll either spark better ideas or hopefully get into a new groove with minimal distractions pretty quick.

Quarantine has been an adjustment for everyone. Hopefully you can use this time to create new habits or refine old habits that weren’t working – for a more productive second half of 2020 and beyond!
