3 min

We know how stressful can be for some athletes to deal with pain an injury after a long performance. As we’ve seen there are various ways to put an end to the pain, but even though some current methods are highly effective when it comes to pain, they’re also very dangerous. The recent hustle and bustle about this problem have led people to another alternative namely CBD drops. Everything changed when in 2018, the World Anti-Doping Agency has removed CBD from the banned substances’ list. These changes have allowed athletes to use CBD as an alternative to other pain therapies and use it as a great tool to deal with crippling anxiety and manage pain.

What are CBD Drops?

As far as we know, there are more than 115 identified cannabinoids that are naturally produced by the cannabis plant. It’s important to remember that CBD oils used by the athletes do not contain the psychoactive compounds we find in cannabis, namely THC, and these have an entirely different chemical structure. When we talk about CBD oils, we refer to a mixture of compounds which are derived from the cannabis plant.

Reduce Anxiety and Promote Optimal Mood

Because CBD oils are not something prohibited in sports anymore, athletes have found this to be a great solution for depression and anxiety. Recent studies from the World Health Organization have stated that depression is a huge contributor to disability. These are also common among many athletes, making their performance to feel even harder it looks.

CBD acts on the endocannabinoid system, interacting with CB1 and CB2 receptors from your body, helping it to regulate main functions such as memory, mood, appetite, sleep and pain. If you’re an athlete looking for a healthier alternative to deal with anxiety or depression that negatively impacts your prowess, CBD oil may provide your relief.

Can Reduce Pain

Inflammatory pain is known to be one of the most common issues among many athletes. This usually happens when you injure or work those muscles to their maximum. Oftentimes, this kind of pain is treated by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as NSAIDs or ibuprofen. Although these can offer great pain relief, such anti-inflammatory drugs have proven to be detrimental for our overall health. Recent studies have proven that the long-term use of NSAIDs has been correlated with strokes, kidney damage, heart attacks, gastrointestinal bleeding and even more.

Recent studies have proven CBD to be a healthier alternative for athletes who face inflammatory pain. Numerous studies on rats have shown the effects of CBD when it comes to this type of pain. Rubbing CBD in arthritis afflicted rats could be highly efficient for reducing inflammation. Studies have shown that the rats were able to use their afflicted limbs and had less inflammation after using CBD. Since this has proven to be highly effective, it can be considered as a better alternative to NSAIDs.

Offer Great Neuroprotective Properties

Since its first use in 2,600 BC, numerous emotional, psychological and physical benefits have been attributed to CBD marijuana. Now, CBD oils play a major role in the development and protection of new neurons. This has given favourable results, showing that CBD contains a combination of neuroprotective, anti-apoptotic and antioxidative effects.

A huge contributor to our bran’s neurodegeneration is inflammation, which in small levels this can be a necessary response of our immune system, but chronic inflammation is known to damage or destroys those neurons entirely. CBD has proven to be highly efficient, reducing the build-up of proinflammatory cytokines that cause an inflammatory response.

Improves Sleep

Athletes require good hours of sleep in order to be more effective and achieve greater gains. Thus, those athletes who are known to consume CBD, have reported more efficient night sleep than those who don’t use CBD.

If you’re an athlete and your sleep troubles you, using CBD oil might be the perfect solution. If these problems usually come from anxiety, pain or another condition, CBD oil might be efficient and it can also help you sleep better but is important to remember that for some healthy individuals, CBD is a great tool for wakefulness.

CBD Can Help You Lose Weight

A recent study has shown that over 4,00 adults who use marijuana tend to weigh less than those who don’t. This study has been able to make a link between cannabis plant use and weight, where news discoveries have shown that CBD itself is an excellent weight-loss tool.

People have two types of fat cells in their bodies, namely white cells and brown cells. The one that makes us gain weight, is the white one, which leads to excessive fat storage. A preliminary study has demonstrated that CBD may increase the browning of your adipose tissue, which means taking CBD, can make losing weight easier

The rise of cannabidiol can have a great influence on the way athletes manage pain and recover from the everyday stress of training. Moreover, there is still a lot to learn about how CBD works and how can athletes can utilize it better. The only potential risks of CBD for the athlete use is only if the product you buy it’s a fake one, or it doesn’t contain what the label says.

When an athlete uses a product with a significant amount of THC this is automatically considered doping. So, make sure you’re being aware of every product and read their labels carefully before buying them. It depends entirely on you and what research do you make when looking for a well-respected brand.

From what we’ve discovered so far, CBD has become one of the most appreciated alternatives to NSAID, which came as a blessing for many athletes nowadays. Besides that, CBD has proven to offer good potential benefits and only a few risks. If CBD offers neuroprotective propriety, improves sleep and alleviates pain, then CBD can a life-changing tool for many athletes.
