One billion cars on planet Earth

There are now 1 billion cars, meaning that about 1 in 7 people on Earth have a car, with the number of cars increasing at an unbelievable pace. In Los Angeles there are reportedly more cars than there are people!

Cruise Control was invented by a blind person

The first cruise control was invented in 1982 by Ralph Teetor. As a blind man he often felt travel sick when in a car and decided to create cruise control to create a smoother ride and eliminate his motion sickness.

Racist Lending Practises

In 2016, Toyota was found guilty of racist lending practises. They had been charging white borrowers who had a comparable creditworthiness a lower interest rate than their African-America, Asian and Pacific Islander customers. As a result, they agreed to pay up to $12.9 million in restitution to thousands of customers.

Car Finance Popularity

Over 85% of new cars and 50% of used cars are bought on finance in the United States. In the UK the figure is a little lower at 80% of new cars being bought on some sort of car credit. This means that more than 4 in 5 cars were not bought outright.

75% Rolls-Royce have made are still on the road

3 out of every 4 cars Rolls-Royce have ever made are still on the road today. It’s an incredible feat of engineering and one Rolls-Royce are no doubt very proud of.

Ford Fiestas reign number one in Britain

There are 1.5 million Ford Fiestas licenced on UK roads making it the most popular car in Britain. Ford Focus comes in second with 1.3 million with the Vauxhall Corsa taking a very respectful third with 1.1 million.

At a standstill

Cars spend 95% of its time parked up and in Britain we spend over a day on average stuck in traffic! Maybe surprisingly though, London is not the worst for this, Edinburgh and Cardiff drivers are the most frustrated with London third, and Manchester forth. The best city in the UK for traffic delays is Newcastle upon Tyne where drivers can expect to spend 14x less in traffic delays.
