With the Diablo 3 announcement during the Playstation Meeting held a few weeks ago Blizzard showed that they have some interesting in developing for current and next generation consoles. With World Of Warcraft still going strong, being one of the most played MMO titles, many have asked Blizzard about a possible console version of the game. Up until now Blizzard has been pretty clear on not wanting to port the game to consoles but things may change with the next generation.

In a recent interview with NowGamer, Blizzard’s lead systems designer Greg Street stated that porting World Of Warcraft to consoles would be a challenge, given how much the game relies on the mouse+keyboard control scheme. If Blizzard was ever going to make a console MMO, things will have to be done differently.

Street also states how they had to change some of the fundamental of Diablo 3 to be able to make the game work on consoles. Diablo 3 Ps3 and Ps4 versions show how things can be done, but need some serious reworking to be able to function correctly.

Street was also asked if Blizzard was looking into some cross-platform integration for next generation consoles and he states that it would be fun thanks to the challenges that the team would have to face.
