Fire Emblem: Awakening promised, ever since its first reveal, to really spice up things and become a new starting point for the series, introducing so many new features into the series without going to much away from the roots that veterans love so much. Being developed on 3DS, there were a lot of ways to implement some special features and the good people at Intelligent Systems worked hard to make them as good as possible.

One of the staples of the series was the class system: each unit belonged to a specific class type which couldn’t be truly changed. The units could only evolve into a more powerful form of the same class after reaching a certain level: in later games a third tier was introduced which required reaching a certain level but also using a special item. Still, there was no way to make a warrior turn into an archer, to make an example.

If customization is your thing, you’ll be happy to know that in Fire Emblem: Awakening you will be able to change characters classes at will: a new video released by Nintendo will introduce you to the new class system, You can take a look at the video here and get hyped: customization options will indeed be huge in this game.

Fire Emblem: Awakening will hit North America on February 4 while European players will have to wait until April to be able to play the game.
