Dragon’s Dogma was indeed one of last year’s gaming surprises: the game came out almost of nowhere, developed by Capcom with team members having worked on other different Capcom’s projects, and it finally was the return to the role playing game genre for the company, after the other RPG series of the company, Breath Of Fire, apparently forgotten.
The game has an intersting spin on the role playing formula thanks to the pawn system, which allows players to issue simple commands to party members and the possibility to encounter and add to one’s own party non playable characters from another player’s world, almost taking a page from Demon’s and Dark Souls’ unique online features.
Dragon Dogma will get a new expansion called Dark Arisen this spring: the expansion will add a new hard difficulty mode, new weapons, areas, dungeons and enemies. According to the latest issue of Famitsu the expansion will also include the full original game and players will be able to transfer most of their stats into the expansion, including DLC bought for the original game which will be fully compatible with the expansion.
We still don’t know anything about the western release of Dark Arisen: it’s probably coming pretty close to the Japanese version but it’s unknown if it’s going to see a retail release or just a digital one. Stay tuned for more details.
