A few weeks ago it was announced that the new Tomb Raider game, a reboot for the series developed by Crystal Dynamics, would be getting an extensive multiplayer mode. Even though it’s almost become an industry standard to include a multiplayer mode for almost every game, fans were sceptical about this decision, fearing that it could be not well done and included just to be there, without anything good or innovative to offer.

There was a reason behind including a multiplayer mode in Tomb Raider, according to Daniel Bisson: speaking with Eurogamer he stated that the team wanted players to play the game for a long time and, with such a rich world created for the game, they felt like it would be a waste to stop at the single player mode. The team wanted to make Lara’s world persistent and they have started looking into ideas for a multiplayer mode: Bisson admits that the mode won’t be anything innovative but he also stated that the fans of the franchise will probably be interested in this online mode, given how much Lara Croft and The Guardian Of Light has been played online.

Tomb Raider will launch this coming March on Ps3, Xbox 360 and Pc.
