Capcom has revealed a new Resident Evil bundle for PS3 called “Resident Evil Anniversary Package”. It will include seven games in the series and will unfortunately be a Japan-only release; Capcom has stated that they have no plans to release the product in other territories.
It is priced at 8,990 yen ($102, or £64), and is set to launch on March 22, 2013 to celebrate the 17th anniversary of the original game’s release.
The original three games are digital, accessible through provided download codes:
- Resident Evil: Director’s Cut
- Resident Evil 2
- Resident Evil 3 Last Escape
While the later entries are on physical disc format:
- Resident Evil Revival Selection (includes Resident Evil 4 and Code: Veronica X)
- Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition
- Resident Evil 6
It seems that Capcom decided to go with just the mainline games for the bundle, understandably excluding the many spin-offs and non-canonical games. It’s odd that Resident Evil Zero would be excluded though, being a direct prequel to the original game.
There appear to be no word on extras, such as an art book or bonus DVD. A shame considering this is a celebration of the series that helped establish survival horror as a video game genre. Overall though, its definitely a very decent collection of games for any survival horror fan.
