People are literally foaming at the mouth for any news on Grand Theft Auto V, so much so that one analyst believes that the game will sell 25 million copies during it’s first year. Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich believes that it does not matter when the game is going to be released; Grand Theft Auto V will be one of the best selling games ever:
“The HD market is softening as we enter into the tail end of this generation, but fortunately this softening has had little impact on our precious AAA titles, In the case of GTA V, I have little concerns about when it is released. GTA IV already proved to the market that even an April release, which has historically been avoided by the industry, can support a 20M+ title.”
“Whether April, June, or even Winter, I’d expect GTA V to sell in upwards of 25M copies in its first 12 months,”
Rockstar has basically gone on record saying that GTA V will be their most ambitious title to date, even going so far as to say GTA V will be the largest game it has ever create. However, I just can’t see the game selling 25 million copies even if the game is Rockstar’s most ambitious game to date (which for them is truly saying something).
Part of the issue I believe is that there was a faction of people who were disappointed with Grand Theft Auto IV and that may play a part in GTA V sales. People felt that GTA IV took a lot of the fun out of the series with the constant phone calls from NPCs telling you that want to grab a drink. In addition, the craziness factor was toned way down in GTA IV, things like jet packs and planes were gone so people became frustrated when they couldn’t cause the amount of destruction they did in previous GTA games.
I honestly have no idea what to expect with GTA V as Rockstar has promised a “bold new direction” for the franchise. We will probably have a better idea of what GTA V will have to offer once November 14th hits and the new trailer for the game is unveiled. What is the one thing you would like to see in Grand Theft Auto V that was missing from GTA IV?
