First up is women’s bantamweight fighter Holly Holm. Her addition is crazy and interesting because she has yet to actually step foot inside the Octagon. Holm is currently under a UFC contract, and she is slated to make her debut against Raquel Pennington at UFC 184 next month. Holm is undefeated in MMA at 7-0, with six knockouts and one win by decision. However, she is most known as a successful championship boxer. Holm’s striking skills have made her a potentially compelling match-up for champion Ronda Rousey. While Holm has not fought in the UFC yet, it is great to get another female fighter for the roster, especially one of Holm’s caliber.
Eddie Alvarez is a highly decorated and experienced lightweight fighter. Alvarez finally made his long awaited UFC debut last September at UFC 178, but he was unsuccessful against Donald Cerrone. Alvarez is a former lightweight champion of the Bellator MMA promotion. Aside from the loss to Cerrone, Alvarez has lost only three other times in his career. Alvarez is known for his exciting style and exceptional striking skills. He is not afraid to stand and take some shots to get the better of his opponents.
Rafael dos Anjos is another fantastic addition for the game. In recent years, Dos Anjos has turned around his career. He has risen through the lightweight ranks and is currently the No. 1 contender in the division. He is slated to fight champion Anthony Pettis for the UFC belt in March. Dos Anjos started his UFC career at 0-2. However, he managed to overcome adversity with great work ethic. Now dos Anjos is slated to fight for the title in MMA’s most competitive, shark-infested division. Considering he is officially ranked at No. 1 of UFC’s lightweight division, dos Anjos is a fantastic addition to the roster.
Finally, light heavyweight title contender Anthony Johnson rounds out the list of fighters added to the content update. Anthony Johnson was a 3-to-1 underdog going into his main event fight against contender Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on FOX 14. Not to mention, the fight was held at a stadium on Gustafsson’s home turf of Stockholm, Sweden. Johnson did not give Gustafsson a chance to settle in. He knocked out Gustafsson in the first round. This makes Johnson the official next contender for Jon Jones’ light heavyweight title. Johnson’s current UFC run at light heavyweight has looked unbelievable, considering his disappointing initial run in the UFC. Johnson actually fought at welterweight, of all places, despite the fact that he was way too big for the weight class. Ultimately, it caused Johnson to get fired. Eventually, he earned his way back into the UFC and has now become a contender for the title. As the No. 1 ranked light heavyweight in the UFC and a future title contender, Johnson easily belongs in this game.
