<p>Rockstar Games recently revealed that Grand Theft Auto V will soon enable a brand new first-person mode. Watching a video for a Grand Theft Auto game in the first-person perspective was strange and surreal. However, the footage and graphics for the next-gen, first-person mode for Grand Theft Auto V look spectacular.</p>

<p>Another great feature about the new first-person shooter mode: It is optional. Rockstar Games announced that the gameplay may be switched between first-person and third-person perspectives at the touch of a button. One of my favorite games on the N64 was Shadows of the Empire, which allowed players the option to play in either first-person or third-person perspective. With the next-gen consoles in full swing, I am happy to see a company like Rockstar attempt this feature. I would like to see more shooters provide the player with the option to toggle between first and third-person modes. The technology of the next-gen consoles makes the transition easier, so more developers should try this. If Rockstar Games can make it happen, other developers should be able to follow suit. The possibilities in providing new wrinkles for gameplay with a first-person mode is exciting. I hope other developers opt to take up the challenge.</p>
<p>Based on the new trailer, there are some definite advantages of playing Grand Theft Auto V in first-person mode. The action looks a tad more visceral, and the player has a more direct view of the surroundings to take in all the tremendous textures and details of Los Santos and Blaine County. In addition, the first-person mode includes new features, such as a targeting system, a new FPS control scheme and new animations. Clearly, Rockstar put a lot of thought and work into converting the game for first-person shooter gameplay. It looks like a completely new gaming experience and a new way to experience Grand Theft Auto V. That said, during shooter battles, there are times I would rather play in third-person. For example, third-person action is preferable. I prefer how shooting and combat mechanics work in, for example, Uncharted compared to Call of Duty. However, vehicle combat with the first-person mechanic looks spectacular for Grand Theft Auto V.</p>
<p>Grand Theft Auto V, featuring the new first-person shooter mode, hits the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 18. The Windows PC version, which also includes the first-person shooter mode, hits the shelves on January 27.</p>
