<p>I never thought I would live to see the day, but lo and behold, Starro is making a debut as a playable character in a DC Comics video game. The alien starfish, Starro, will become a playable champion character for the free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena game, Infinite Crisis, early next month. As a fan of the DC Comics Universe and classic DC characters like Starro, I am supremely ecstatic to see Starro as a playable character in a video game. Turbine and Warner Bros. Interactive released a new gameplay video (available below) revealing Starro the Conqueror as a playable character for Infinite Crisis.</p>

<p>In 1960, Starro&#8217;s first appearance marked the debut of the original Justice League of America in the pages of The Brave and the Bold Issue No. 28. The new Starro gameplay video for Infinite Crisis showcases Starro&#8217;s look and abilities for the game. I am happy to see that developer Turbine incorporated Starro&#8217;s classic design for the game. Starro&#8217;s look in the game is basically a 3D CGI update of the creature&#8217;s original look. Just as in the comics, Starro is armed with miniature, parasitic spores. With the spores, Starro is able to mind control enemies and turn them into brainwashed slaves. In addition, Starro utilizes a mind control beam to force enemies to mimic his movements for a brief period of time. While Starro&#8217;s stature is smaller for purpose of a MOBA game, it appears that Turbine has faithfully adapted the creature and its abilities for Infinite Crisis.</p>
<p>Starro has made video game appearances before, but he has never been a playable character in a video game until now. Infinite Crisis is doing a great job bringing in characters and creatures from all corners of the DC Comics Universe, including alternate versions of existing characters from other dimensions of the DC Multiverse. Starro is a character that seeks to achieve peace and harmony through mind control. One can argue that Starro possesses noble goals. It wants to eliminate war and conflict and achieve peace and harmony throughout the universe. However, Starro tries to achieve peace by subjugating its victims to mind control. It manipulates the will of others and takes away their individuality &#8212; a characteristic that puts Starro at odds with the heroes of the DC Universe.</p>
<p>Infinite Crisis is currently in open beta. Starro the Conqueror becomes available as a playable character on November 5.</p>
