Far Cry 4: Lowlands Video Breakdown

1 min

In the build-up to the release of Far Cry 4, Ubisoft has launched a new video series, “Welcome to Kyrat,” to showcase the regions of characters within the game’s fictional country of Kyrat. The first video for the game (available below) examines the Lowlands region of Kyrat. The Welcome to Kyrat video series is done in a faux-documentary style. The Lowlands also has a lot of new, revealing gameplay footage.

The Lowlands appears to be the main area of Kyrat and the hub of activity for the game. Many of the civilian villages in the area are located along with the main roads and pathways that are used by Pagan Min’s army. Kyrat’s open world looks absolutely massive, and the new location is one of my favorite aspects of the game. The transition from a more tropical setting to a rural mountain area evocative of the Himalayas is a great move for the franchise.

The video provides the first in-depth look at the character Paul De Pleur, the leader of Pagan Min’s army. The new footage makes De Pleur look like a kindred spirit to Pagan Min, who appears to take great pleasure in torturing others. In the new video, it appears that De Pleur is torturing Ajay Ghale’s Kyrat guide from earlier videos. Ubisoft already revealed that both men will be captured by Min and his soldiers. So, apparently, Ghale’s guide will live long enough to be tortured by De Pleur. De Pleur’s name sounds French, but his dialogue does not have a noticeable accent. He is clearly not a Kyrat native. I assume he is some type of Canadian mercenary.

The new Lowlands video also provides a wider look at the wildlife for the game, including honey badgers, bears and demon fish. Demon fish are essentially super-sized, giant piranhas. It looks like they will be a potential threat if players decide to explore the rivers and marshes of Kyrat. The demon fish look massive and terrifying, and you do not want to get near them. It definitely seems that Ubisoft definitely has stepped up the amount of wildlife gameplay for Far Cry 4. Kyrat is teaming with living animals that can be used to the player’s advantage. Besides tigers, lions and honey badgers, meat bait can be used to lure in giant bears to attack enemies. That looks like it will be a ton of fun to add to this interesting game.

Far Cry 4 hits the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC on November 18.
