<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here are some tips to get prepared and get through the next gun ban.</span></p>

<li><b> Be prepared for your favorite firearm to be permanently banned</b></li>
</ol>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Gun bans aren’t new. States have been enacting bans for years. For instance, California</span><a href="https://gun.laws.com/tec-9"> <span style="font-weight: 400;">banned the Intratec TEC-9 pistol by name</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> after an elementary school shooting in 1989. To get around the ban, Intratec created the TEC-DC9 and changed the location of the sling points. However, all models were banned under the Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) of 1994.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Although the AWB has since expired, Intratec found a way around the ban. The company started producing the AB-10, which is basically just a TEC-9 Mini without a threaded barrel so it can’t accept attachments. When Intratec was still in business, the AB-10 was sold with smaller, 10-round magazines as opposed to the 20 and 32-round magazines sold with the original TEC-9.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">When the next ban is enacted, manufacturers will produce new models with new names and change the characteristics of existing models. However, the federal government will probably pass legislation with verbiage that prevents manufacturers from sliding by like they could in the past. If your favorite firearm is under attack, be prepared for the possibility that it might be banned for good.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The firearms you prefer may never be included on the list of banned guns. However, legislation that includes a gun ban tends to have a ripple effect that affects other aspects of owning a firearm. The biggest threat with currently proposed gun control legislation is one that can put firearms manufacturers out of business. </span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.guns.com/news/2020/10/22/joe-biden-promise-gun-bans-restrictions"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Biden supports legislation</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that would hold gun manufacturers responsible for crimes committed with their firearms. This means a gun doesn’t need to be banned via legislation to be taken off the market. States could simply pursue a lawsuit against the manufacturer of a gun used in a crime and successfully put that manufacturer out of business.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is exactly what happened to Remington when they were sued by victims of the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. The 204-year-old company</span><a href="https://nypost.com/2020/07/28/remington-gunmaker-files-for-second-bankruptcy-in-two-years/"> <span style="font-weight: 400;">went into debt paying for legal expenses</span></a> <span style="font-weight: 400;">and had to file for bankruptcy twice. Remington is now</span><a href="http://marketrealist.com/p/will-remington-still-make-guns/"> <span style="font-weight: 400;">auctioning off assets</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and going out of business for good. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We are entering an era where it doesn’t matter if a mass shooter steals their weapon from an irresponsible parent or other adult to commit their crimes. If manufacturers can be sued, they can be bankrupted into oblivion before they even get a chance to have a jury trial. Buy what you need now before your favorite manufacturers are bankrupted by lawsuits.</span></p>

<li><b> Play by the rules</b></li>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As tempting as it is to bury your AR-15s to avoid federal registration, you may want to reconsider. Up until this point, a national firearms registry has been deemed illegal, but it looks like that could change. While it is possible the registration is a way for the government to track and confiscate AR-15s later on, it’s not worth facing felony charges, especially if you have a family. </span></p>

<li><b> Buy some backup rifles</b></li>
</ol>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you love AR rifles and pistols, consider that in the future, they might be deemed illegal. If they are deemed illegal and you have to turn them in, don’t get caught without a backup firearm. You don’t have to build a giant cache, but you should have at least one basic rifle and one basic pistol that would work as a substitute in case you need to give up your AR collection.</span></p>

<p><b>Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s no longer a matter of ‘if,’ but ‘when’ the next gun ban will be enacted in the United States. Proposed legislation is targeting Armalite firearms, and although it’s unfair, it seems like there’s little hope of stopping it completely. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hopefully, this gun control legislation will at least be amended before it gets passed in any form. However, be prepared to potentially surrender or register certain brands of firearms at the federal level sometime in the future. </span></p>
