<h2>Career Ups and Downs</h2>

Born in <strong>Fort Lupton, Colorado</strong>, Brian started his <strong>career in 2005</strong> by entering the<strong> Denver Strongest Man contest</strong> with no formal training. Both of his parents were taller than average. And he had uncles of exceptional stature. So, in a way, height was always in his genes.



During his high school years, he <strong>excelled in basketball</strong>. After high school, he enrolled in <em>Otero Junior College</em> in <strong>La Junta, Colorado.</strong> He formed an inside combination with <strong>Bob Austin</strong> and led the <em>Rattlers</em>. After Otero, he got a <strong>full basketball scholarship</strong> at <em>Black Hills State University</em>. There, he got his <strong>degree in wellness management.</strong>



Even during his basketball career, <strong>Brian loved weights</strong>. He got hooked on them. The weight room served as his sanctuary. In<strong> October 2005</strong>, he entered the <strong>Denver Strongest Man contest with no formal training.</strong> And he <strong>won the competition</strong>. Seven months later, he <strong>joined the professional ranks.</strong>



In 2009 he entered the <strong>Strongest Man on Earth competition in Canada.</strong> He finished in <strong>third</strong>, but he was the <strong>only man to lift six Atlas stones</strong> weighing between<strong> 300 and 425lbs</strong>. For his next competition, he went to <strong>Romania</strong> and competed in the <strong>World Strongman Super Series</strong>. In September the same year, he traveled to<strong> Valletta for the World’s Strongest Man contest.</strong>



In his<strong> first World’s Strongest Man competition</strong>, Shaw made it to the podium. And his career really took off.



In 2010, he qualified for the finals at the <strong>World’s Strongest Man in Sun City, South Africa.</strong> He lost to <strong>Zydrunas Savickas</strong>, the former champion. They were tied at the end of the finals, but the system of scoring counts places throughout the finals. Savickas had<strong> 2 first places and 1 second place</strong> while <strong>Shaw had 2 first places and 1 fourth place.</strong>



By the end of 2010, he <strong>won the Strongman Super Series Swedish Grand Prix</strong>. The next two years were some of his best. In 2011, he won the <strong>Arnold Strongman Classic</strong> and <strong>World’s Strongest Man</strong> in the same year. Brian was the <strong>first person to ever do that.</strong>



<strong>In 2011,</strong> at the <strong>World’s Strongest Man competition</strong>, he finally beat out <strong>Zydrunas Savickas</strong>. He took first place by beating him on the f<strong>inal event, the Atlas Stones.</strong> Shaw beat Savickas again in <strong>2013</strong> on the Atlas stones. <strong>He won the World’s Strongest Man competition again in 2015 and 2016.</strong>



In October 2018 he competed in the <strong>World’s Ultimate Strongman competition in Dubai.</strong> He struggled with some of the events including the <strong>deadlift</strong>. He trained with different bar height. Brian also <strong>struggled at the yoke</strong>. But eventually, he performed well, lifting all the objects in the overhead medley. He finished<strong> just one point behind Hafthor Bjornsson</strong> going into the final event.



In the final event, he <strong>lifted all six Atlas stones</strong>, but that wasn’t enough to surpass <strong>Bjornsson</strong>.

Now, Shaw operates his <em>YouTube channel,</em> <em>ShawStrength</em>. He took a <strong>break from strongman competition</strong> to focus on his media career.



<strong>In 2019,</strong> he took part in <strong>The Strongest Man in History mini-series</strong> on <em>History Channel.</em> In the first episode, he<strong> pulled a 12,000 pounds Viking ship</strong> on a <strong>60 feet incline course</strong>.
